MLB Betting Preview
ALCS Game #4 - Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Indians
Tuesday, October 16, 2025 @ 8:20 pm Eastern – FOX

SBG Global Opening Line: Red Sox  -112 , Total 10 Under (-120)

Game #4 of the American League Championship Series will have two veteran pitchers matching up against each other.  Tim Wakefield takes the mound for Boston while Cleveland counters with Paul Byrd. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favorite Red Sox on the Road.

Wakefield will be on the mound for the first time since late September.  He has been resting his sore back. "The rest has done me well," Wakefield said on Monday. "I feel ready to go." In LCS play Wakefield has gone 5-1 with a 3.89 ERA for the Red Sox. Wakefield threw a simulated game last week and had no problems. "I really don't have any concerns," Wakefield said. "The day after I pitched in Chicago, I was in a lot of pain. I tried to get ready for my next start, actually came to the park that day expecting to pitch, and that was the day I missed the start and couldn't do it. There's nothing structurally wrong with anything, I just think it's wear and tear. I can't pinpoint exactly what caused it to start hurting."

Wakefield could frustrate Cleveland hitters who have seen the heat of Beckett, Schilling and Dice K. "When you get to this time of year, you have a great deal of challenges when it comes to the opposition," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "Surely a knuckleball pitcher takes it to the extreme. It's not something you see very much of anymore." Wakefield is 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 11 career games at Jacobs Field.’’

SBG Global Current Line: Red Sox  -113 , Total 10 Under (-120)

15-game winner Paul Byrd goes for Cleveland. "He's won a lot of regular-season ballgames, multiple postseason games, and you have to like every bit of that," manager Eric Wedge said. Byrd has more wins over the past two years than any other free agent pitcher except for the Ranger’s Kevin Millwood. "You know what you're going to get from Paul," Wedge said. "He knows himself very well. He knows how to get hitters out his way. Great competitor, doesn't give in, and he just goes out and does his thing, and he has been doing it for a lot of years." Byrd has a 4-2 record with a 4.12 ERA in seven career starts against the Red Sox.

Here were the betting stats heading into Monday’s game. The Red Sox are 6-2 in their last 8 playoff games as a favorite. The Red Sox are 5-2 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Red Sox are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Cleveland.

The Indians are 4-0 in their last 4 games as a home underdog. The Indians are 17-4 in their last 21 home games.

The Over is 8-3 in the Red Sox last 11 vs. the American League Central. The Over is 4-0-1 in the Indians last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Indians last 6 playoff home games. The Over is 11-5 in the Indians last 16 games a home underdog.
