Let's Talk About Handicapping The NBA

Today I want to share with you some very powerful tips about handicapping the NBA and how you can select the best game as possible.

Before I begin, you should know that PRO basketball (NBA) is probably the toughest sport to handicap.  Two important things you need to consider when handicapping the NBA are situational elements and mental aspects.

Some important factors you must consider when handicapping the NBA are back to back game, number of road trips involving three or more games, last home game before a road trip, first game off a long road trip, mismatch games, non-conference games, important division matchups, etc…

Because each team plays 82 games during the regular season, it's virtually impossible for these athletes and their teams to be up for each game.  The key is figuring out which games they'll be on and which they'll be off.

Thus, I have come up with a few tips to help you make the best decision as possible when choosing which team to bet on:

Tip #1:

A lot of people like to bet against a visiting team playing the second of back-to-back games.  However, the reality is that the home team won nearly 64 percent of the time in that situation, but only covered the spread 50.3 percent of the time.

It's reasonable to assume that a team will be tired in the second of back to back games and the regulars will get fewer minutes in the second game than in the first but surprisingly, just the opposite is the case.

A team playing a set of back-to-backs is more vulnerable in the first game than in the second one.

So you will have to add some factors when determining the best team to bet on.  Just betting on these home teams when the money line is over 1.60 could be a good idea.

TIP #2

Look to play the under when both teams have had more than two straight days off.  It would be also a good idea to consider the opponent in the first half of these games as it could take at least one half of play to get the rhythm established again.

TIP #3

Another fact is that most team are vulnerable in their first home game after returning from a road trip, and it's not just because they may be adjusting to a new time zone or having to take care of personal things.

Stats over the years support this theory.  Players realize that in order to win on the road, they have to work harder and stay focused.

TIP #4

Bad teams aren't that bad when you factor in the pointspread.  Here, you have to remember one simple thing.  The oddsmaker's goal is to try to get 50% against the spread for each and every team.  So, this way, even if someone always bet against the spread on a specific team for an entire season, the sportsbook still makes money.

TIP #5

If the game is on the elite team's home court the line is sure to be highly shaded as oddsmakers anticipate that the betting public will bet the home favorite.

This is a FACT.  If you take a look at how the money is spent at a sportsbook, you will see that the public likes to bet on the favorite.

This is an emotional fact and you can be assured that the sportsbook will work very hard on this line.  So here, going for the underdog with a gift of 2-3 points is a good idea.

So if you want to increase your winning percentage on NBA bets, I suggest that you consider these tips.
