Learning To Play Craps Online

By: Richard Bleuze

Craps is one of the more exciting and social table games played in casinos today.  It is one of the few truly social games played in modern casinos, and one of the few played with dice.  While the game's apparent complexity and odd jargon like hardways and horn bets may, at first, be intimidating, you will find the game of Craps relatively simple to master, enjoyable and rewarding.

The object of Craps is to predict the number displayed on the dice after the dice toss.  You are able to place all bets that you would find at a traditional land-based Casino.  Depending on the bet placed by the player, the player is either betting with (Don't Pass Line bet) or against (Pass Line bet) the house winning.

Craps Bets

There are numerous bets you can place on a craps table:

1)  The wager is placed on the PASS LINE.  A wager on the PASS LINE wins if the COME OUT roll is a 7 or 11 and loses if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled first.

If the COME OUT roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 the POINT is established. To win the bet, you must repeat the POINT before a 7 is rolled. If you roll a 7 before the POINT is repeated, the PASS LINE bet loses.

Once the POINT is established, the bet may not be removed or changed.

2)  The wager is placed on the DON’T PASS BAR field.  A wager on the DON’T PASS BAR wins if the COME OUT ROLL of the dice is a 2 or 3 and loses if a 7 or 11 is rolled first. If you roll a 12, it is considered a tie and play continues.

If the COME OUT roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 the POINT is established. To win the bet, you must roll a 7 before the POINT is repeated. If you repeat the POINT before a 7 is rolled the DON’T PASS LINE bet loses.

Once the POINT is established, the bet may not be removed or changed.

3)  COME bets are made after the POINT has been established. The rules for this bet are the same as the PASS LINE bet.

The wager is placed on the COME field.  A wager on the COME field wins if the dice throw – immediately following the placement of the bet - is a 7 or 11 and loses if a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled.

If the roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 the COME POINT is established.  To win the bet, you must repeat the COME POINT before a 7 is rolled.  If you roll a 7 before the COME POINT is repeated, the COME bet loses.

Once the COME POINT is established, the bet may not be removed or changed.

4)  DON'T COME bets are made after the POINT has been established.  The rules for this bet are the same as the DON'T PASS bet.

The wager is placed on the DON’T COME BAR field.  A wager on the DON'T COME BAR field wins if the dice throw – immediately following the placement of the bet – is a 2 or 3 and loses if a 7 or 11 is rolled.  If you roll a 12, it is considered a tie and play continues.

If the roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 the COME POINT is established.  To win the bet, you must roll a 7 before the COME POINT is repeated.  If you repeat the COME POINT before a 7 is rolled the DON’T COME bet loses

Once the COME POINT is established, the bet may not be removed or changed.

5)  Place bets are made on the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 only.

6)  The wager is placed on the WIN field below the number.  To win the bet, you must roll the place number before a 7 is rolled; otherwise the bet loses.

The bet may be placed or removed at any time.

7)  The wager is placed on the LOSE field above the number.  To win the bet, you must roll a 7 before the place number is rolled; otherwise the bet loses.

The bet may be placed or removed at any time.

8)  FREE ODDS bets are placed on the point or come point only.

NOTE: On FREE ODDS bets you must be careful to bet the proper amount to get an even payout.  On uneven payouts the casino will round down to the next lowest even payout.  On 5 or 9 your bet should be made in multiples of $2, on 6 or 8 your bet should be made in multiples of $5 and 4 or 10 it doesn't matter what you bet because the payout - 2 to 1 - is always even.

Remember that your PASS/DON'T PASS bet determines the value of your FREE ODDS bet.

9)  The FREE ODDS stake is equal to your original PASS LINE stake and can only be made after the POINT has been established.  The rules for this bet are the same as the PASS LINE bet.

The wager is placed beside your PASS LINE stake.  If the PASS LINE bet wins, the original PASS LINE bet and the FREE ODDS bet are paid.

The wager may be placed any time after the POINT has been established and can be removed at any time.

10)  The FREE ODDS stake is equal to your original DON'T PASS stake and can only be made after the POINT has been established.  The rules for this bet are the same as the DON'T PASS bet.

The wager is place beside your DON'T PASS stake.  If the DON'T PASS bet wins, the original DON'T PASS bet and the FREE ODDS bet are paid.

The wager may be placed any time after the POINT has been established and can be removed at any time.

11)  The FREE ODDS stake is equal to your original COME stake and can only be made after the POINT has been established.  The rule for this bet are the same as the COME bet.The wager is placed beside your COME stake.  If the COME bet wins, the original COME bet and the FREE ODDS bet are paid.

The wager may be placed any time after the COME POINT has been established and can be removed at any time.

12)  The FREE ODDS stake can be up to your original DON’T COME stake.  The rules for this bet are the same as the DON’T COME bet.

The wager is placed beside your DON’T COME stake.  If the COME bet wins, the original COME bet and the FREE ODDS bet are paid.

The wager may be placed any time after the COME POINT has been established and can be removed at any time.

Craps Rules - start playing at English Harbour

1. You are betting on the number the next roll of the dice will display or won't display.

2. In its simplest form you place a bet on the Pass line (or on the Don't Pass Line) and try to roll a seven or an eleven (or a two or three).

3. If you succeed the bet will pay even money and you can make another bet.  This first roll is called the 'Come Out' roll.

4. Should you fail to roll a seven, eleven, two, three or twelve then the 'point' is established on the number of the value of the dice rolled.

5. Once a point is established your objective is to roll the 'point' again before the next seven is rolled. If a seven is rolled you lose your bet.

6. Once the 'point' has been established you can not remove your bet from the table.

7. Dice rolling continues until the PASS/DON'T PASS bets have either won or lost.

8. If there are remaining bets (COME/DON"T COME bets, PLACE bets etc.) dice rolling will continue and a new point will be established.

9. If no other bets are remaining on the table you must place a bet in order to roll the dice.

10. At any time between dice rolls you can place bets.

11. PASS LINE/DON'T PASS LINE bets can only be placed if the white puck is NOT on the table.

There are numerous betting options available but you only need to understand a few of them to play the game, have fun and win.
