College Football Betting Tip
 
It is widely believed in college football betting circles that the AP Top 25 and the Coaches’ Poll are not very trustworthy when it comes to handicapping a college football game.  Thus, in my opinion, the polls should be taken with a grain of salt.  However, there is also a lot of information that can be gleaned from the rankings.
 
As a general rule, yes you should bet on the ranked college football teams.  However, there are, in my opinion, when the situation calls for you to bet against college football ranked teams.  Betting against a college football ranked team is not a strategy that you should follow blindly.  Generally, by the end of the season, the rankings for college football are pretty accurate in separating the contenders from the pretenders and you should bet on college football ranked teams.
 
However, a very nice angle that you should follow is to bet college football ranked home underdogs against college football ranked road favorites.  For instance, if No. 1 USC is favored on the road against No. 25 Oregon, the Ducks are the best bet in this case.  The Trojans might win the game, but chances are the Ducks will cover the spread.

The toughest call, I find, is when a college football ranked road favorite rolls into an unranked college football conference team's home field.  In this case, the tendency is to bet against the road chalk, even if they are ranked.  However, always make sure that you do your normal handicapping to see if you are correct. 
 
Thus, I suggest that you do not depend on the polls during the early season.  Generally, I find that polls can throw off the sports bettors in the early in the season, especially with the elite teams.  Many sports bettors do not punish the big public programs as much as they should, and that can leave those teams vulnerable against the spread when they run into a solid opponent.  As a rule, the betting public and the media expect the likes of Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma to headline the college football rankings, and they will often give them an unjustified mulligan when they slip past a team they should have handled easily.
 
Thus, the college football rankings, can often lead sports bettors down the wrong path in betting a game.
