Big Races - Big Purses

During last two weekends of September there are several big horse races at various horse racing tracks during the 2nd half of September. From the $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs on September 22nd, to the Jockey Club Gold Cup with a purse of $750,000 on September 30th.

Belmont Park takes center stage the last weekend of the month, as they celebrate one of their richest weekends of the year.  They have four races that offer purses of $600,000 or more, including the Jockey Club Gold Cup above.

UPDATE: 

If you see one of these three horses - Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, Preakness winner Curlin, or Belmont Stakes' winner Rags to Riches – in Northwest Louisiana the weekend of September 22nd, you can add another $500,000 to Louisiana's highlight horse racing event.

Louisiana Downs’ Super Derby, if it does jump from $500,000 to $1 million, will become the richest day in the track’s history.  But the big race isn’t the only attractive purse on the schedule, as Super Derby Day also features four turf stakes races worth $200,000 each, including the newly formed Happy Ticket for 2-year-old fillies and the Sunday Silence for 2-year-olds colts.
