Bet Early At Your Favorite Sports Book

Bet Early At Your Favorite Sports Book

I offer this simple tactic to improve your winnings at your favorite sports book.  However, I am always amazed that only a small portion of players take advantage of it at their sports book.  That betting strategy is to bet early. Overnight lines are the betting world's gift to players since generally they offer good numbers across the board.  In fact, many sports book do not even offer overnight lines.  Once you have found a sports book that does offer overnight lines and start to experiment with betting overnight, you will quickly see that that the overnight lines offer you better value.  This article will try to explain why, and how best to take advantage of the sports books that do offer you overnight lines.

You must remember that money moves the odds, and sports books see where the money is flowing.  The goal of a sports book is to seek to get two-way action, with roughly equal money on both sides.  If the current odds fail to produce that, then the sports book will increase the price to bet on the team everyone likes and make the unpopular team cheaper - changing of the odds.  Most moves come from the bettors, although moves can happen because of an injury, etc. Because of this, moves can sometimes happen quickly due to large bets from big players or gambling syndicates.

As a sports bettor, you need to decide when to bet in addition to who to bet on and how much to risk.  Chances are that other sports bettors share the same opinion as you on a certain bet.  If so, they will bet on the same team, and together you will often make the price to bet your team more expensive.

Thus, not only are the teams you would like to bet on going to get more expensive over time, but the ones that will get cheaper are exactly the ones you are most likely going to avoid due to the price!  Thus, the earlier you bet, the more value you are likely to find.

Because of the above reasoning, there are three good reasons not to use overnight lines.  The first reason is that overnight lines make it harder to shop around for the best price because many sports books have not yet posted their odds.

The second reason you might skip overnight lines is size.  The overnight limits are smaller because sports books know that their lines frequently offer value and their volume will come closer to the start of the game.  This is the reason that some sports books do not even offer overnight lines at all to protect themselves.  However, most sports bettors do not place bets big enough for this to be an issue.

The third reason you might want to skip the overnights is timing.  Most sports bettors do not want to plan that far in advance.  Many sports bettors are casual bettors who are trying to maximize the value of their bankroll.  However, remember, as you get more serious about your betting (have your bankroll increase), it will become more important to get the best value.

Are you a serious bettor?  Just remember, that line shopping the next day is rarely as valuable as the overnight lines.  Thus, if you are to be a serious player, you should bet overnight to maximize your advantages.

Remember, you get value when you bet overnight lines.  The sports books just get to sharpen their line for a certain game.   You do not have to be a genius to be an overnight winner, just a solid sports bettor.  When you focus in on a game and give it your full attention, you are paying more attention to it than anyone at a sports book can afford to pay on that one game.

Because of this, you will come out a winner over the sports books in the long run!
