Review of PokerRoom.com
By: Richard Bleuze
PokerRoom.com is one of the oldest and most respected internet card rooms. It was established in 1999 and has been providing solid poker action ever since. Just because they've been around for a while doesn't mean they are stuck in their ways by any means. PokerRoom is one of the most innovative sites out there. They are constantly developing new features for their users. Their java applet allows you to play from anywhere with no download. There is nothing flashy about this site. You won’t find high rollers slinging money in big limit games, but what you will find is one of the best sites out there for middle limit cash games.
Unfortunately there are no microlimit games on PokerRoom. The lowest level of play is $.50/1, so if you are looking to only deposit $25, you should consider a different site. But if you’re depositing $100 or more, you’ll have plenty of money and will really enjoy this site’s charm. PokerRoom also offers Omaha and 7 Card Stud games, although these tables rarely fill out like their Hold’em tables.
PokerRoom has recently developed its No Limit Holdem games into a thriving section of the site. Log on anytime and you’ll find dozens of $.25/.50 no limit tables, at least ten tables with $5/10 blinds, and a nice variety of blind levels in between.
Like the rest of the site, PokerRoom's tournament section caters to the middle limit players. Most of their tournaments range between $5 and $20 buy-ins and attract 150-300 players. PokerRoom starts a tournament every 15 minutes, so anytime you get a craving for small buy-in tournament play, you’re sure to find something you like under the tournament tab. PokerRoom.com offers the most freeroll tournaments of all the poker sites.
However, not all PokerRoom tourneys are small. They’ll occasionally host $30 buy-ins complete with rebuys, add-ons, and healthy $30,000 guaranteed prize pools. Even if you enjoy your small buy-in games, it’s nice to take a shot at a 10K first prize every once in a while.
PokerRoom is always running special promos for their players. Visit PokerRoom.com, click on the promo tabs and see if there’s anything you like.
“Pokah,” PokerRoom’s poker community, and the Poker school are other cool features of the site. PokerRoom does a great job of catering to their players and keeping them happy. The “Pokah” community keeps players updated on all the latest promotions and develops a community atmosphere for players to get to know one another. Their Poker School gives free lessons to get new players acclimated to the different games and the nature of online play.
(Note: This poker room does not allow U.S. players. See more below.) In summary, PokerRoom features first-class graphics, speed and design. The software comes in both a downloadable and no-download version. PokerRoom is the largest site on the OnGame network, with very good cash-game and tournament volume. PokerRoom offers great promotions and very playable software
